Why this exists

It's gotten strange, not knowing your neighbors.

Somewhere along the way, helping the people two houses down started to feel like it needed an occasion — a fundraiser, a form, a cause with a name. It doesn't.

Meaningful service is supposed to be easy. A weed pulled, a walk shoveled, a yard cleared — done by someone who lives near you, for no reason except that it needed doing.

So we made it easy again.

The model

Three rules. That's it.

Show Up

No invitation. No interview. No résumé of good deeds required. You're already qualified — you showed up.

Do Good

Not a curated cause or a hashtag. A fence, a yard, a sidewalk, a stranger's front walk in the snow. Small, real, and finished by lunch.

Go Home

No debrief, no follow-up ask, no guilt if next month doesn't work out. You did a good thing. That's the whole reward.

Bigger than one park

Nancy Lewis Park is where we're starting. It's not where this ends.

Second Saturday isn't a single event we're inviting you to — it's a pattern any neighborhood can pick up: a park, a Saturday morning, a handful of neighbors, and no agenda beyond leaving the block a little better than they found it.

Ours happens to be in Colorado Springs. Yours could be anywhere.

The only gear you need

The only barrier to showing up is usually a pair of gloves you don't own.

So we keep a box of them — every size, washed, ready — at every gathering. Grab a pair, do the work, bring them back. It's the smallest, least glamorous piece of infrastructure we've built, and the one that matters most.

Is this a church or ward event?

No. Second Saturday is a Charlie Company Cooperative community program, open to any neighbor. It meets on public park ground and isn't tied to any one congregation's calendar.

Do I need my own tools or gloves?

No. Bring what you have if you want, but the Glove Box keeps gloves in every size on hand, and the day's job usually comes with whatever tools it needs.

Do I need to sign up in advance?

Not for the first gathering — just show up. If the group grows enough that a headcount helps with planning, we'll add a light signup and say so here.

What if the weather's bad, or I only have a few minutes?

We postpone rather than push through unsafe conditions — exact process still being finalized ahead of October 10. And there's no minimum: come for twenty minutes or stay the whole morning.
